Wizard’s Choice, Audio Walking Version

You are a young wizard seeking treasure and glory. As you walk through goblin territory and into an abandoned old castle filled with gods-know-what, each step you take gives you magical energy and opens up possibilities to cast spells to keep yourself alive.

This game, created in partnership with Delight Games, gives you options to make your own decisions in this magical world, but unlike any other choose-your-own-adventure story, it’s meant to be played while walking. Put on your headset and either speak or tap your choices as you go.

Follow these instructions to try out the first story on the Android alpha:

  1. On your phone, open Settings.
  2. Open Security.
  3. Turn on Unknown sources. This allows you to install apps from places other than the Google Play Store. You can turn off this setting once you have installed the app.
  4. On your phone, tap on this link: Wizard’s Choice, Walking Version.
  5. It will take about a minute to download. You can check the download status by swiping down from the top of the phone.
  6. Once downloaded, swipe down from the top of the phone and tap on wc.apk.
  7. Tap on INSTALL.
  8. Once it has installed, tap on OPEN.
  9. If you have a headset with a good microphone, then try turning on Voice Input in the Settings. Then you can speak your choices. Just  be patient: it takes a few seconds to recognize the number you spoke.
  10. Put on your headset and go for a walk!
  11. Note: Take enough steps and you will get more mana (magical energy). Get enough points and you will get more life.
  12. Contact me at info@sdkbridge.com to tell me how it went. (In particular, I want to know how you like the phone’s voice. Will it suffice, or do we need a voice actor reading the story?)

  • Once you’ve downloaded the installer wc.apk, if opening it results in opening an app rather than the installer, try installing a free File Manager app like ES File Explorer, and opening it from there. It will be in the Downloads folder.
  • If your phone does not have a built-in step counter, it will count steps using the accelerometer. You’ll get a message to this effect. In that case, the phone should be in your pocket to get good results.
